ASV, pioneer of EDA, to advise UltraSoC
UltraSoC was founded in 2005 as provider of circuits as IP for debugging of multiprocessor systems. It is now offering a broader range of IP for debug, monitoring and in-service analytics to optimize power-performance trade-offs and deal with security threats and safety breaches.
Sangiovanni-Vincentelli, known as ASV throughout the EDA industry, co-founded Cadence Design Systems Inc. in 1983 and Synopsys Inc. in 1986 and both remain the market leaders in the EDA industry they helped define. ASV is still on the board of directors at Cadence and on its governance and strategy committees, in addition to having held advisor roles at numeorus companies including Intel, STMicroelectronics and General Motors.
ASV gained a masters degree from the Politecnico di Milano in 1971 before moving in 1976 to the University of California Berkeley where he has been a professor almost ever since. He is the author of hundreds of papers, 17 books and three patents in the areas of design tools and methodologies, large scale systems, embedded systems, hybrid systems, energy efficient buildings and innovation.
One of ASV’s recent interests – very relevant for the IoT era – is swarm intelligence. He also researched and pushed the adoption of hardware-software co-design, which is relevant to UltraSoC’s business.

The concept of analytics and intelligence that can be embedded in the fabric of any system is a game-changer: one that will help the industry rise to those challenges.”
ASV joins a number of business and technology leaders on the UltraSoC advisory board: including Simon Davidmann, Vijay Dube, Guillaume d’Eyssautier and Professor David May.
UltraSoC last week announced a successful £5M funding round and a line-up of new investors. Alberto Sangiovanni-Vincentelli is a member of the investment committee at Atlante Tech, UltraSoC’s lead investor in the round.
