Electric power reaches trailers and transporters

ePower is a system for energy recuperation in trailers by means of wheel hub generators: The generator generates electricity whenever the trailer’s brake is applied. The concept suits particularly refrigerated goods transporters; two such wheel hub generators generate sufficient energy to operate the frozen goods box. Even if a battery is added to temporarily store the electric energy, the concept is not heavier than the diesel generator typically used in today’s refrigerated trucks and trailers. But it can significantly reduce the fuel bill: According to BPM, the wheel hub generators save about 2.500 liters of diesel per year.

Brake energy recuperation comes to trailers:
The ePower wheel hub generator turns motion energy into electriciity.

The second concept from BPM to be shown at IAA is eTransport, an electrical axle for lorries, and in particular for vehicles to be deployed in the metropolitan distribution traffic, courier and express transporters. Axle, electric drive system and energy storage in this concept form a complete system that can be integrated into various vehicle models. The drive is emission-free and recuperates the brake energy. In addition, it improves the maneuverability of the vehicle since it offers active steering support – a feature that is relevant in particular in city logistics. The battery capacity is dimensioned for a typical day mission with reserve for additional tasks. The battery then is recharged overnight.
