Finnish sub-threshold startup raises additional funds
Lifeline Ventures Oy (Helsinki, Finland) is the latest investor to show interest in the processor technology developed by Minima. In the first stage Minima attracted investments from VTT Ventures, CFT Nordic Capital, Aalto University, and from a group of angel investors.
Minima’s main contribution to the state of the art would appear to be techniques to optimize processor voltage and frequency operating points dynamically although it also advocates the now mainstream idea of using of sub-threshold voltage operation. Minima’s clocking is adaptive synchronous rather than asynchronous. Minima provides a middleware stack with its hardware that provides compatibility with dynamic voltage and frequency scaling (DVFS) regimes. It also appears that Minima’s technology can be applied to digital processors and logic generally.
Minima said it has signed a contract with an unnamed semiconductor company and is in customer negotiations in the US and China.
