Image sensor platform for automotive use

January 09, 2018 // By Ally Winning
On Semiconductor has launched a scalable family of high-resolution CMOS image sensors for automotive applications in Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) and autonomous driving applications.

To give developers real flexibility, the new range delivers a variety of image sensors that range from 8.3 megapixels (MP) down to 1.2 MP, which are based on the same platform and offer the same feature set. The 4.2 µm pixel size provides the low-light performance that will be necessary for new safety tests that have been defined by Euro NCAP and will come into operation soon. The image sensors also offer a range of features that includes functional safety up to ASIL-C, HDR, security options and a small package size. Cybersecurity protection is also becoming more important as more cameras are added to designs and information is shuttled around the vehicle.

The variety of different sensor offerings will allow automotive developers to add segmentation to their product offerings. It will also allow software development and testing to be performed across the whole sensor range and for different sensors to be used in final manufacture.
