Merck buys display quantum dot company

June 30, 2015 // By Peter Clarke
Merck KGaA (Darmstadt, Germany) has announced it is acquiring Qlight Nanotech Ltd. (Jerusalem, Israel), a developer of nanocrystalline materils for lighting and display applications.

Merck is already an investor in Qlight but did not say how much it is spending to acquire 100 percent of the company.

Merck said it plans to strengthen its position in liquid crystal display materials and in organic light emitting diode OLED materials. Qlight's nanocrystalline materials improve the richness of color and the energy efficiency of displays.

Qlight Nanotech’s Jerusalem site will remain the quantum materials research hub for Merck. Qlight was founded in 2009 and led by CEO Kobi Olin has developed an optical film containing its semiconductor nanoparticles.
