Sangiovanni-Vincentelli replaces outgoing chairman, Chris Gilbert, who steps down having served as UltraSoC’s chairman since January 2014.

UltraSoC was founded in 2005 as provider of circuits as IP for debugging of multiprocessor systems. It is now offering a broader range of IP for debug, monitoring and in-service analytics to optimize power-performance trade-offs and deal with security threats and safety breaches.

Sangiovanni-Vincentelli, who has been a major figure in both the technical and commercial development of EDA, joined the company’s advisory board in June of this year (see ASV, pioneer of EDA, to advise UltraSoC). UltraSoC said that it immediately became apparent that the company could benefit from his vision for the system-wide potential of the company’s technology.

As well as serving as a professor at University California Berkeley, where he has been present since 1976, in the 1980s ASV helped found the two leading EDA companies; Cadence Design Systems Inc. and Synopsys Inc.  ASV has also served as an advisor to such firms as Intel Hewlett Packard and STMicroelectronics.

“The industry is now benefitting from the power of embedding UltraSoC IP into systems not only to debug the silicon in development, but to analyze and continually monitor performance, power, safety and security in critical applications,” commented Sangiovanni-Vincentelli, in a statement issued by UltraSoC. “UltraSoC has made a very strategic move in applying this capability to the growing ecosystem for the RISC-V open-source processor platform, as well as to all standard processor architectures.”

Rupert Baines, UltraSoC CEO, commented: “Chris Gilbert has made a significant contribution to UltraSoC and we are indebted to him for his involvement and excellent support over the last three years.” Baines continued: “We are excited to welcome Alberto into the Chairman role and are convinced that his background as a serial entrepreneur and distinguished academic makes him the ideal choice for guiding UltraSoC’s future growth and direction.”
