Well-connected startup to test self-driving in California
AImotive was founded in 2015 as AdasWorks but changed its name to AImotive in November 2016. It had previously gained permission to test in Finland.
Launched in 2015, AImotive has raised $10.5 million in seed and Series A funding from investors Robert Bosch Venture Capital, Nvidia, Inventure Oy, Draper Associates, Day One Capital Fund Management and Tamares. AImotive counts Altera, ARM, Bosch, Ceva, Intel, Nvidia, NXP, Qualcomm, Volvo and WinD River amongst its partners.
The company’s aiDrive software stack comprises of a Recognition Engine, Location Engine, Motion Engine and Control Engine and is designed to be processor agnostic so that it can run on microprocessors, GPUs, and FPGAs. However, to address the need for neural network hardware acceleration AImotive has designed neural network hardware IP for automotive embedded solutions.
AImotive also initiated the setup of a new neural network data exchange standard called NNEF (Neural Network Exchange Format) with the support of the Khronos Group, a standards body that serves the graphics industry. The NNEF standard creates a more accessible and AI development ecosystem by making communication simpler and more reliable between AI toolsets and inference engines.
AImotive had already grown to 120 researchers and developers, including 16 PhDs,” by the time of the name change. The company was founded by CEO Laszlo Kishonti.
