Flir has launched its first camera as a division of Teledyne, with a 16MPxel camera that supports high speed Gigabit Ethernet GigE vision applications.

The BlackFly S BFS-PGE-161S7M and BFS-PGE-161S7C use a 16 MPixel Sony IMX542 Pregius S series image sensor with a back-illuminated global shutter and improved quantum efficiency (QE) of 69 percent at 525nm. This enables the use of less expensive and more compact optics.

The Blackfly S cameras, ahich were originally developed by Point Grey prior to the acquisition by Flir,  use a new Lossless Compression algorithm to provide 60 percent higher frame rates to 12 frame/s with full resolution without compromising image quality. This allows a single unit to replace several low-resolution cameras for more cost effective inspection systems in applications such as from PCB and semiconductor manufacturing as well as metrology and scientific research.

On-camera features including IEEE1588 clock synchronization and full compatibility with popular third-party software supporting GigE Vision. The camera series is  available with interfaces for GigE, USB3, cased, and board-level versions.
