1x raises $100m for production of humanoid robot

1X in Norway has raised $100m for its second generation of AI-enabled humanoid robot and is inviting engineers to its headquarters

The Series B round brings the total raised at 1X to $125m to scale up production of its NEO walking humanoid robot. The first generation, EVE, used wheels.

The round was led by EQT Ventures with Samsung NEXT, with existing investors Skagerak Capital and the Nistad group. Previous investors include AI developer OpenAI and Tiger Global.

NEO is designed for everyday home assistance, offering versatile support for a wide range of domestic tasks in the consumer market and the funds will be used to scale up production of the second generation, The company has developed a new approach to embodied learning for data collection, the company stands at the forefront of AI robotics.

The funds will also support 1X’s existing enterprise clients in logistics and guarding.

1X also is inviting 25 engineers for the inaugural Open House at 1XHQ in Moss, Norway. The two-day event will provide an opportunity to dive deep into the heart of the 1x technology, from large language model AI and Nvidia GPUs to gearless motors. 

The selected engineers will get to engage with the inner workings of the EVE and NEO androids with a keynote from CEO Bernt Øivind Børnich keynote on the future of robotics and the philosophy of embodied learning driving 1X’s AI work. 

“We are thrilled that these leading investors are supporting 1X’s mission of safely deploying Androids with Smart Behaviour into new markets. Our next milestone will be scaling our data collection strategy for Embodied AI and offering NEO to consumers,” said Børnich.
