250W SIP DC-DC converter saves slashes PCB board area
TDK has launched a 250W non-isolated DC-DC converter that needs less than 3cm2 (0.47in2) of board area, 60 percent less than the previous 1/16th brick package.
The TDK-Lambda brand i6A4W SIP (Single Inline Package) DC-DC converter has input ranges of up to 3.3V to 40V and the 10 to 20A rated step-down converters can accept input voltages between 9 and 53V. This allows the creation of multiple, high current output voltages from a single output 12V, 24V, 36V or 48V AC-DC power supply, and is suitable for use in communications, industrial, test and measurement, broadcast and portable equipment.
The overall dimensions of 33 x 11.4 x 24.8 (L x W x H) are important as the SIP trades off board area for a higher profile height. A dynamic voltage response reduces the need for external capacitors, also saving additional board space and cost.
The DC-DC converter family has efficiencies of up to 97% which allows operation in ambient temperatures of -40°C to +125°C with the minimised output derating, even in low airflow and high ambient temperature conditions.
Standard features include a trim pin for output voltage adjustment, + remote sense, remote on-off (positive or negative logic), input under-voltage, over-current and over-temperature protection. Power good, operating frequency synchronisation and output sequencing are available as options.
Safety certification includes IEC/EN 60950-1, UL/CSA 60950-1 with CE marking for the Low Voltage and RoHS Directives. All i6A converters have a three-year warranty.
