2D optical interface scales beyond 1024 ports.
RAM Photonics Industrial in the US has developed a 2D optical interface that scales beyond 1024 ports for switches in AI datacentres.
The company specialises in automated photonics manufacturing that eliminates any need for manual assembly and testing. This is key for producing the scalable Medusa Array 2D array of optical fibres that can scale beyond 1024 fibre ports with negligible insertion loss.
The family of products specifically addresses the need for high-volume, low-cost 2D optical-to-electronic interfaces in optical circuit switching (OCS) and co-packaged optics (CPO). In contrast to manually intensive photonics assembly, Medusa is produced using fully automated, high-yield production without the need for epoxy.
The fully automated manufacturing of the optical interface allows designers to define an arbitrary interface geometry, custom collimation layer, and mixed fibre types, while guaranteeing the volume and cost structure traditionally associated with high-yield semiconductor production.
“RAM is proud to introduce the Medusa Array family of products to meet the growing photonic interface need in AI and DC infrastructure,” said John Marciante, CEO of RAM Photonics. “Our automated manufacturing platform ensures unmatched precision and industry record yields, positioning RAM as a leader in high-volume fibre interconnects.”
