The solutions consist of a combination of NXP radar processors and 77GHz transceivers. They have been developed to provide flexible and scalable configurations for NCAP requirements for corner and front radar applications. They also provide a commercially viable path to 4D imaging volume production. 4D imaging radar takes the radar from measuring range and speed to add direction, angle of arrival, and elevation measurement.

NXP’s new suite of radar sensing solutions offers an optimized approach with scalability that promotes design re-use to assist carmakers to meet the needs of brand and model portfolios.

The combination of NXP’s new S32R45 radar processor and TEF82xx transceivers provides fine angular resolution, processing power and range required to tell the difference between small objects in the distance and accurately separate and classify vehicles and other road users like cyclists or pedestrians in crowded environments.

NXP scalable corner and front radar solution
NXP’s new offering also provides scalability for long-range front radar and advanced multi-mode applications such as simultaneous blind-spot detection, lane change assistance and elevation sensing. Advanced applications need an extended range and enhanced angular resolution for detecting and clearly separating multiple objects simultaneously and providing the ability to surround the car in a 360-degree safety cocoon. The combination of NXP’s new S32R294 radar processors and the company’s NXP TEF82xx transceivers help address both NCAP and advanced corner radar as well as long-range front radar sensor requirements in an effective way.

“Radar has evolved from just detecting other cars’ velocity and distance to providing imaging radar’s high-resolution object and feature detection for precisely mapping the car’s surroundings,” said Torsten Lehmann, EVP and GM, Radio Frequency Processing, NXP. “Our new radar sensor solutions can help customers cover NCAP requirements to make driving safe, and also address the frontier of ADAS sensing on the path towards fully autonomous vehicles.”

The new NXP Radar Sensor Solutions are built on 16nm FinFET and 40nm RFCMOS technology.
