The device features peak-current-mode control with pulse-width modulation (PWM) scheme. Low-resistance, on-chip MOSFETs simplify the layout and yield high efficiency at full load. It can deliver up to 3.7A at an output ranging from 0.9V to 92% of VIN. Switching frequency is 100 kHz to 500 kHz, adjustable, with synchronization. Peak efficiency is over 90% and shutdown current is 2.8 µA typical. A programmable soft-start feature allows users to reduce input inrush current. The device also incorporates an output enable/undervoltage lockout pin (EN/UVLO) that allows the user to turn on the part at the desired input voltage level. An open-drain, active-low RESETB pin provides a delayed power-good signal to the system upon achieving successful regulation of the primary output voltage. The part uses synchronous rectification on the output and with all-ceramic capacitors, can occupy a small footprint.

 

The device operates over the -40°C to +125°C industrial temperature range and is available in a 20-pin, 4 x 4 mm TQFN package. Simulation models are available. Use it, Maxim suggests, in applications such as the communication hub in smart meters; floating power supply generation; industrial process control; and isolated power supplies in medical equipment.
