Compliant with IEEE 100GBASE-LR4, the FU-401REA TOSA features four electro-absorption modulators with laser diode (EML) and an optical multiplexer integrated in one compact package measuring only 8.8×26.5×5.6mm, a 75% reduction in footprint compared to the existing FU-412REA model, claims the manufacturer. The new EML chip can operate at up to 15 degrees Celsius higher than the company’s previous model and cooling power is reduced by 50% to help lower the operating power of optical-transceiver modules. The unit achieves a maximum transmission distance of 10km, with an output power ranging from -2 to +2dBm.
