500W DC-DC converter module targets GaN RF power amplifiers designs
Artesyn Embedded Power has launched a 500W DC-DC converter module aimed at Gallium Nitride (GaN) radio frequency (RF) power amplifier (PA) applications.
The AGQ500 from Artesyn, now part of Advanced Energy Industries, is housed in the industry standard quarter-brick format. It has a typical efficiency of 95 percent and a wide input range of 36 to 75 volts. The 50V nominal output model (AGQ500-48S50) has a trim range of 25 to 57 V to support the growing use of GaN technology used in high power wireless base station (BTS) deployments with an output current of up to 10A>
An aluminum baseplate structure gives AGQ500 series modules excellent thermal performance. The model can operate between -40 and +85 ºC ambient temperature and can continue to operate at full power up to 100 ºC baseplate temperature, all without air cooling.
Other features include remote enable, remote output sense and trim with protection features such as input under voltage lockout, output over current protection, output over voltage protection, and over temperature protection. No minimum load requirement helps to increase reliability and contributes to a mean time between failure (MTBF) of 1.5 million hours (calculated according to Telcordia SR-332-2006) and is IEC62368 compliant.
