60GHz human tracking and gesture sensor
Socionext Inc. (Yokohama, Japan) has introduced the SC1240 Series of radio-wave ranging sensors that use the 60GHz band with a built-in signal processing circuit for detecting the position and movement of a person.
Sample shipments are scheduled for Q2 2022, and mass production in Q1 2023.
The SC1240 series is a radio-wave ranging sensor that complies with the global broadband 60GHz radio equipment standard and occupies 6.8GHz of bandwidth – 57.1GHz to 63.9GHz.
This makes the sensor suitable for tracking human movements and gestures.
It includes multiple antennas, wireless circuitry, A/D converters, FIFO memory, SPI interface, a sequencer that flexibly changes the duty cycle and controls power consumption. A signal processing circuit provides range-finding and angle-calculation.
The average power consumption is 0.72mW at 0.1 percent duty cycle operation.
It comes in an FC-BGA package measuring 4mm by 7mm by 1.2mm
