60W docking station combines Thunderbolt 3 and USB-C PD
When using Thunderbolt and USB-C, users often need to properly match a particular docking station to a laptop to take full advantage of its capabilities. Using a docking station not properly matched to the laptop can cause suboptimal performance such as only one of two monitors functioning or the dock not working at all, which could result in dissatisfied users, IT support, product returns, lost productivity or having to carry multiple different docking station SKUs for mixed computing environments.
Startech worked with Intel on the TB3CDK2DPUE Dual-4K Docking Station to take advantage of the versatility of Thunderbolt 3 and USB-C while minimizing connectivity confusion. This enables quick and easy out-of-the-box deployment of productivity enhancing workspaces without having to worry about a PC’s Type-C port compatibility and drivers. It has passed rigorous Thunderbolt certification for Mac and Windows systems with Thunderbolt 3 ports while still maintaining compatibility with non-Thunderbolt PCs that have USB-C ports.
“This docking station was designed with both the IT Professional and user in mind by providing the highest performance while minimizing USB-C connectivity confusion and support,” said Nirav Gandhi, Vice President of Product Development at StarTech. “Using the latest Thunderbolt 3 technology from Intel along with its ease-of-use, this docking station intelligently adapts to Windows or Mac, Thunderbolt 3 or USB-C laptops so users can focus on productivity instead of compatibility.”
“Solutions like StarTech’s Thunderbolt 3 docking station address the rigorous demands of corporate IT with ease of mass deployment, broad PC compatibility and the best user experience,” said Jason Ziller, General Manager of the Client Connectivity Division at Intel. “At 40 Gbps, the latest generation of Thunderbolt 3 PCs and peripherals offer unprecedented performance, compatibility and convenience through a single cable connection.”
The TB3CDK2DPUE is a single docking solution that intelligently adapts the performance output based on the PC’s capabilities.
This means users with Thunderbolt 3 laptops have up to 40 Gbps available for the highest performance, including the ability to connect up to two uncompressed 4K 60Hz (UHD) displays with a single cable connection through the dock. Using the same Thunderbolt 3 cable, users with USB-C laptops can connect up to two 1920×1200 (WUXGA/HD) resolution monitors. In addition, the docking station can also charge a laptop through USB-PD power delivery and offer multiple peripheral connections (keyboard, mouse, storage, audio, etc.) and wired networking through the same single cable connection to a laptop, offering simplicity, convenience and ease-of-use.
The TB3CDK2DPUE is available from a range of retail outlets.
