A tool to battle e-waste, starting with your own designs!

We have boxes with cables, development boards, old hardware for future use, old tools and a lot more… all ready to turn into e-waste if we are not going to use it!

ecoEDA is a new initiative that might help you to turn your good intentions into reality. It is a python-based tool that integrates with KiCad and is designed to provide suggestions of recycled components whenever you add a new symbol to your schematic.

With the ecoEDA library generator Users can create an ecoEDA library (library of electronic components recycled from e-waste) by using a spreadsheet (.csv) to inventory their parts and using our custom scripts to translate their inventory into a KiCad compatible ecoEDA library. This allows for use of these components when building schematics in KiCad.

Users can use the custom script to import previous schematics to add their parts to their ecoEDA library, and the In-editor suggestions will search through the libary to offer suggestions for potential replacements when you are adding new components to your schematic. These suggestions will appear as pop-ups on the side of your KiCad editor window.
