ActLight gains licensee for photodiode tech
ActLight, a startup founded in 2010, did not disclose the name of the licensee. ActLight has been developing applications for its CMOS photonics including a novel low power photodetector. In 2017 the company demonstrated a heart-rate sensor based on DPD that consumes about one fifth of the power of commercial devices. That development was made with the École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) and an unnamed global semiconductor vendor with experience in the medical technology sector (see ActLight lowers heart-rate sensor power).
ActLight claims its CMOS-based photonics technology is applicatble to time-of-flight (TOF) ranging, vital signs monitoring and 3D/2D cameras.
“The demand for vital signs monitoring sensors is growing at an accelerated pace with a need for innovative sensor technologies,” said Serguei Okhonin, ActLight co-founder and CEO, in a statement “The collaboration with this prestigious semiconductor company is expected to deliver to the market the new, world-class sensing solution that will enhance the vital signs monitoring experience of the wearable device’s users.”
