Combining ADI’s ToF technology with Jungo’s CoDriver software creates the basis for monitoring vehicle occupants for drowsiness and distraction by observing head and body position and viewing direction. In addition, the solution will enable intelligent driver-vehicle interaction based on facial, body and hand gestures, and will include a facial recognition function that identifies people inside the vehicle and gives them access to features such as personalized infotainment, personalized services and carpooling billing.

“The collaboration with Jungo opens the door to innovative augmented reality applications that go beyond today’s gesture control,” said Vlad Bulavsky, Product Line Director, Automotive Connectivity and Sensing, Analog Devices.

The 3D ToF principle works similarly to that of popular lidar laser scanners. It uses high-power optical pulses of nanosecond duration to capture depth information (typically over short distances) from a relevant scene. ADI offers products and solutions to further optimize the capabilities of 3D-TOF systems. The offering includes signal processing products, laser drivers and power management devices, as well as development boards and software/firmware to help developers quickly implement 3D-TOF solutions.

Jungo’s CoDriver software uses deep learning, machine learning, and computer vision algorithms to detect the driver’s condition in real time using cameras. CoDriver also supports vehicle interior detection technology that can determine the number of occupants and detect whether seat belts are fastened. The software can also detect critical health conditions of the driver.
