Surftape is a continuous carrier tape specifically made for safely transporting semiconductors from the manufacturer to the circuit board builder. Surftape offers benefits to the customer including no up-front tooling charges, no cover tape needed, precise component placement and secure retention, and the ability to test parts immediately before shipping.
Tempo Electronics, in conjunction with Bell Labs, the R&D group of Lucent Technologies, developed and demonstrated a new process for flip-chip assembly using Surftape which claims to offer the best of both worlds; direct-chip-attach or chip-on-board, all from one tape and one feeder with no modifications.
Surftape is suitable for advanced ultra thin LED packages including flip-chip, chip scale packages, bare die and package free LEDs.
