The Infiniium S-Series has the world’s fastest 10-bit ADC,and can achieve 12-bit resolution by processing. Coupled with a new low-noise front end, the S-Series delivers an ENOB (effective number of bits) for the system of more than eight, which Agilent says is the highest in the industry. Noise floor is quoted as 90 µVrms at 1 GHz, and SFDR is down to -73 dBc. Emphasising the signal integrity aspect, Agilent notes that the units’ frequency response is flat to the quoted limits, in both amplitude and phase. The series includes bandwidths from 500 MHz to 8 GHz with four-channel DSO models and 16-digital-channel MSO models. Standard memory is 50 Mpts per channel or 100 Mpts per channel when interleaved, claimed as the deepest available.

The S-Series has an extensive range of application-specific measurement software, that runs on an Intel i5 quad core motherboard with 8-GB RAM, ensuring the scope stays responsive in all operating modes. Fast boot-up time and increased reliability comes with its solid-state drive. The 15-inch (38.1-cm) multitouch capacitive-touch display is gesture-enabled. As with other contemporary oscilloscope product lines, although the range starts at 500 MHz bandwidth, the hardware is common and all units are calibrated to 8GHz, so that bandwidth upgrades are software-enabled. Any DSO can be upgraded to a MSO (adding logic channels) in minutes. Prices start at around €13,500, for 500-MHz bandwidth.

The InfiniiVision 6000 X-Series is, Agilent claims, the first oscilloscope to offer 6 GHz bandwidth starting at $29,500, less than half the price of competitors’ oscilloscopes with comparable bandwidths. The range includes 2- and 4-channel DSO models and MSO models with 16 digital channels and with bandwidths from 1 GHz to 6 GHz at 20-Gsamples/sec sample rate. The 6000 X-Series oscilloscopes offer these capabilities for the first time in an oscilloscope of this size. Its weight of 6.8 kg and depth of 15 cm are one-third of similar bandwidth products, for portability in multi-GHz-bandwidth oscilloscopes.

The 6000 X-Series has a 12.1-inch multitouch capacitive touchscreen. It lets engineers visualise and isolate more anomalies with its 450,000-waveform-per-second update rate and the hardware InfiniiScan Zone touch trigger. For the first time in an oscilloscope with an embedded operating system, the InfiniiVision 6000 X-Series offers a jitter and real-time eye diagram analysis option that provides an intuitive but powerful way to visualise jitter and eye diagrams of digital signals in embedded designs, used with the standard colour grade and histogram features. Also for the first time, localised voice control (in 14 languages) allows precise scope control and signal visualisation while an engineer’s hands are occupied.

The Agilent InfiniiVision 6000 X-Series is a “six instruments in one” product: oscilloscope, logic analyser (MSO), protocol analyser, dual-channel WaveGen function/arbitrary waveform generator, digital voltmeter, and for the first time in any oscilloscope, a 10-digit counter totaliser. The 10-digit counter has 3.2-GHz bandwidth, and the totaliser counts trigger-qualified events in addition to edges.

Asked about the separate RF spectrum analysis channel that appears in a competitive product, and Agilent spokesman acknowledged that the company had noted the development but believes that the degree added complexity is not justified by the results of having such a channel. All of the “six-in-one” functions on the Agilent scope are enabled as part of the basic purchase. Pricing for the series spans approximately €12,000 to $35,000.

For general-purpose, high-speed differential probing with the Infiniium S-Series oscilloscopes, today Agilent has also introduced the InfiniiMax III+ probing solutions, including 4-GHz, 8-GHz and 13-GHz differential active probes and new QuickTip accessories for InfiniiMax probes. The InfiniiMax III+ probes work with the full array of InfiniiMax III probe heads, including a wide range of solder-in probe heads, a browser head, ZIF (zero insertion force) tips, 2.92-mm/3.5-mm/SMA heads and the new QuickTip head.
