Airbus UK launches Space Accelerator
Airbus has selected its first cohort of ten UK companies for a space accelerator, with quantum, RISC-V and electric thruster technologies.
The Airbus Space Accelerator, run by Plexal, is open to both existing space companies and any business with the desire and potential to work in space. The 14 week programme is a chance for participants to move their product closer towards minimum viable product (MVP) and directly benefit from the extensive space heritage and technical expertise at Airbus Defence and Space.
The first cohort includes Angoka in Belfast for cyber security for smart systems as well as D-RisQ in Malvern for aerospace control software development and Aquark Technologies in Southampton for quantum systems for cold matter
It also includes:
- Applied Atomics: Rapid response network in space
- Calnex Solutions: Telecom and cloud computing testing
- LIA Aerospace: Green propulsion systems
- Magdrive: High-power electric plasma thrusters
- Physical Mind London: Astronaut exercise solutions
- Yondar: STEM education in space technologies
Quantum startup Aquark Technologies had previously secured a £3.4m contract from Innovate UK to develop a high-performance cold atom clock that will be the first commercially available in the UK.
“This is a great opportunity for D-RisQ to be guided by Airbus and Plexal on evolving our business to meet the needs of the space sector. We are looking forward to having the opportunity of bringing value from our automatic verification tools to the sector and accelerating access to space for the UK space supply chain….and beyond,” said Nick Tudor, Co-Founder and CEO of D-RisQ.
