All new Jaguar models will provide OTA updates
Thanks to the SOTA function, software updates will in future be transmitted wirelessly via the mobile network to the vehicles; workshop visits to upload new data records will no longer be necessary. However, this only applies to certain software components in the infotainment and navigation area, as the company’s press office is dampening high-flying expectations.
After all, it is no longer necessary to visit a workshop for software updates. The updates can be brought into the vehicle either by SIM card via the mobile network or via a WiFi connection.
The SOTA capability now applies to all new vehicles. JLR vehicles from model year 2016 onwards are entitled to receive a hardware upgrade (in the workshop) that will also enable SOTA.
In addition to OTA capability, the infotainment systems of the new JLR models (Touch Pro and Touch Pro Duo) offer the option of integrating smartphones with the Android and iOS operating systems into the vehicle via Android Auto or Apple CarPlay. This mirrors the user interface of the smartphone on the infotainment screen and the driver can control the phone via infotainment.
