The seminar was for development teams and senior executives at Vivo and allowed AMS to demonstrate products for proximity sensing, 3D Sensing, color sensing, audio sensing, and image sensing. During the one-day meeting senior representatives from both companies discussed existing cooperation and future technical innovation around the mobile phone ecosystem.

Vivo usually ranks in the bottom half of the rankings of top ten vendors of smartphones and as the third of the top three Chinese vendors Xiaomi, Oppo and Vivo. Oppo, OnePlus and Vivo have a common parent company BBK International.

AMS has been working with Vivo for more than five years and the collaboration has resulted in the introduction of the behind OLED (BOLED) display optical and proximity sensing, multi-camera imaging, camera white balance and laser detection auto focus (LDAF).

The popularity of 48Mpixel cameras has introduced the problem of slow autofocus speeds. The TMF8801 time-of-flight sensor from AMS addresses this by providing distance measurements to in the range 2cm to 2.5m.

“We work together with vivo to develop the smartphone sensor technology of tomorrow in the Android market. Through industry-leading optical, proximity, and imaging technologies and solutions in the field of sensors, vivo and AMS have created some game-changing technology focused on full-view screens, and advanced smartphone technology and design. In future, we want to further deepen cooperation with vivo and together continue to create products that provide the best-in-class experience for consumers,” said Pinglu Chen, AMS senior vice president of sales and marketing for Greater China.
