Both sensors have com with built-in self-test functions. They consume only 0.25mA at 3.3V and are offered in 10-pin 3 x 3mm LGA packages.

“More and more industrial companies are recognizing the advantages of digital sensor technologies,”explains Kionix CEO Nader Sadrzadeh. In contrast to the consumer market with its short upgrade cycles, however, in the industrial sector it is often not sensible to completely discard existing infrastructures and directly convert them to digital solutions. The reasons for this are the large volume of capital investments already made, the long service life of the plants and the need to ensure continuity. In industrial applications, analog solutions are therefore often preferred. In response to this demand, Kionix is expanding its broadband digital mid-range g-range solutions with the addition of the KX220 series of analog accelerometers.”

Since the monitoring of machines and physical processes is one of the most common applications of industrial sensors, the requirements for g-range and bandwidth are usually higher than for handheld applications in the consumer segment. The sensors are designed for tasks ranging from vibration monitoring to impact and shock detection and measurement. The markets addressed include machine condition and diagnostic monitoring, robotics and automation as well as the control of production processes.

Kionix is a member of the ROHM group.
