
Analog Devices and Intel work together on 5G radio platform
The new radio platform will use ADI’s radio frequency (RF) transceivers beside Intel Arria 10 FPGAs to provide a set of design tools to easily create optimised 5G solutions.
Increased traffic is occurring over wireless networks in both private networks and public spaces. Wireless operators therefore wish to cut development times to implement designs that increase the capacity, performance and reliability of 5G networks.
“This new radio platform reduces the overall cost of design and quickens our customers’ time to market without sacrificing system-level performance,” said Joe Barry, Vice President of the Wireless Communications Business Unit at ADI. “By coupling ADI’s transceivers featuring advanced digital frontend (DFE) functionality with Intel’s leading FPGA technology, our customers’ solutions can achieve the high level of performance they require while increasing their flexibility to more efficiently resolve emerging network issues.”
The new high-performance, O-RAN compliant solution is based on ADI’s software-defined transceiver, which includes DFE capability. The addition of Intel’s Arria A10 FPGA helps create a flexible architecture. The partnership will allow the customisation of frequency, band and power to provide better system performance at a cheaper price.
