Analog Devices buys Invecas HDMI business
Invecas bought the business from Lattice Semiconductor back in 2017 for an undisclosed sum but including the transfer of approximately 150 research and development (R&D) staff. The sale leaves Invecas as an ASIC design service company and software and systems company.
The addition provides ADI with audio and video chips for enterprise and consumer markets. The HDMI business group has a history that goes back to Silicon Image, a company founded in 1995 where HDMI technology was created.
“HDMI technology is in high demand for business, professional, consumer and automotive video applications,” said John Hassett, senior vice president at Analog Devices, in a statement.
HDMI is going through a transition to HDMI 2.1 and as it is rolled out, applications such as 8K and 10K video, enhanced audio return, variable refresh rate and more will become commonplace, Analog said.
