In 2021 the combination of strong demand and well-documented supply-chain disruptions contributed to a 6 percent increase in the average selling price for analog ICs in 2021. That was the first time the ASP of analog semiconductors had increased since 2004.
IC Insights breaks down the general-purpose analog and application-specific analog market categories in the table below. Sales in all the categories are expected to increase, ranging from 7 percent growth in the amplifiers and comparators segment to 17 percent growth for automotive application-specific analog ICs.

Growing shipments of 5G cellphone handsets and the infrastructure to support them are one of the key reasons that the communications segment is forecast to account for the largest portion of analog IC sales in 2022. Wireless communication applications are expected to represent 91 percent of sales within the communication analog segment this year with wired communications applications accounting for 9 percent.
