Aging in lithium‑ion batteries affects capacity, safety and usable lifetime. Chemical markers in the electrolyte can reveal degradation processes well before they become visible at cell level.
In this application note, trialkyl phosphates are used as robust markers for electrochemical aging in commercial liquid electrolytes. A fast GC‑MS method detects and quantifies these compounds with high sensitivity, helping to track LIB decomposition and link it to operating conditions and cell design.
