Support for the Android Development environment is now included within the VectorCAST tool suite, for developers who want to quickly port legacy C and C++ applications to an Android platform. The integration of VectorCAST/Cover, VectorCAST/C++, and VectorCAST/RSP, with the Android Native Development Kit (NDK) and Android Developer Tools (ADT) provides a turn-key solution for testing on either the Android mobile device emulator, or on Android-based hardware devices.

The Android-specific capability was engineered to address the challenges facing organisations developing new applications, or migrating legacy applications to Android. For both safety-critical applications developed to meet automotive, medical device, or industrial control standards, and consumer applications the VectorCAST solution is intended to reduce time-to-market. The fully automated regression testing provided by VectorCAST enables you to realise the benefits of continuous integration and testing, while running tests directly on the Android platform.

VectorCAST/C++ along with VectorCAST/RSP for Android automates low-level testing and results in a suite of tests that provide pass/fail metrics for individual modules. The VectorCAST/RSP for Android uses Android’s Software Development Kit (SDK) and the Android Debug Bridge to execute the unit test on the Android platform, and retrieve test and code coverage results. When combined with coverage metrics obtained from VectorCAST/Cover during testing of the fully integrated application, you gain the ability to gauge the completeness of testing activities. A video demonstrating how this capability works is available on the Vector Software website. (
