The company previously raised $2.8 million in August 2017 and plans to use the money address the autonomous vehicle, UAV, and industrial automation markets. The core technology is protected by more than 200 patents and enables solid-state lidar without moving parts, the company states on its website.

The company did not disclose the names of investors but claims to have several “top tier” venture capital firms on-board and to have strong customer traction.

Arab Angel Fund includes Sense Photonics in its portfolio and elsewhere Congruent Ventures is listed as an investor.

Besides Durham Sense Photonics has offices in Edinburgh, UK and San Francisco. The company is looking to hire a software engineer to work in California and an analog and mixed-signal IC design engineer to work in the recently opened design center in Edinburgh.

The company was co-founded by Scott Burroughs, who serves as CEO, and chief commercial officer Russell Kanjorski. Both Burroughs and Kanjoksi were previously with Semprius Inc.
