Apple, Hyundai join forces for autonomus e-car, reports say
Apple and the South Korean car manufacturer Hyundai are apparently planning to cooperate on the construction of an autonomous electric car. This emerges from several media reports, which in turn refer to Korea IT News. According to the report, the partnership is to be signed by next March. A test vehicle is to be produced as early as 2022.
Production of the “Apple Car” is to start as early as 2024. At the end of last week, a media report said that an iCar could possibly come onto the market in 2027. On Friday, Hyundai only confirmed that initial talks with Apple were taking place.
The report in “Korea IT News” on Sunday also said that the Apple Car would be produced either in the US factory of Hyundai subsidiary Kia in the state of Georgia or in a new plant to be built jointly by the two partners. Initially, 100,000 vehicles are to be produced from 2024. The full annual capacity is to be 400,000 units later. Earlier reports said that the contract manufacturer Foxconn would take over production.
