Apple patents flexible OLED display for bezel-free devices
On February 13, 2014 the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office published a patent application from Apple entitled ‘Flexible Displays’. The new display patent revealed techniques of reducing the display border by bending the sides of a display surface. Such a technique could be applied to future generations of iPhones and iPads as well as wearable devices such as the iWatch.
Apple is rumoured to testing a bezel-free screen and a fingerprint recognition capability. Samsung is believed to include similar features in the company’s next smartphone Galaxy S5 that could be unveiled at the upcoming Mobile World Congress 2014 in Barcelona, Spain.
