AllWinner (Zhuhai, China), was founded in 2007 and develops high definition (HD) media semiconductors. It has licensed the ARM Cortex-A8 processor and the Mali-400 MP graphics processing unit (GPU) to enable HD displays to be used with a range of Android OS-based connected consumer products.
The combination of ARM CPUs and GPUs is seen as being a optimized solution for SoCs for tablets, smart TVs, personal media players, eBooks, smart media boxes, IP cameras and multimedia solutions for automotive.
The Allwinner Technology SoC design are due to be available from the second quarter of 2011.
Telechips Inc, (Soeul, Korea) has extended its licence of ARM Mali embedded graphics products to now include the Mali-400 GPU. It presently uses the Mali-200 GPU in designs that are being used in Android-based tablets. It will deliver products based on the Mali-400 MP GPU in the second quarter of 2011.
