ARM microcontroller has up to 512kbytes embedded ReRAM

Nuvoton Technology Corp. (Hsinchu, Taiwan) has announced the M2L31Cortex-M23 microcontroller series with embedded ReRAM.

The MCU has been designed for low power consumption with a maximum clock frequency of 72MHz.

The NuMicro M2L31 microcontroller, with an Arm Cortex-M23 core and various configurations features 64 to 512kbytes of non-volatile ReRAM and 40 to 168kbytes of SRAM. The series supports two CAN FD and two USB Type-C PD 3.0 ports.

Recommended applications for the M2L31 series include battery management, industrial automation, and consumer peripheral devices. It has three low-power modes: normal shutdown, standby shutdown, and deep shutdown.

The microcontroller’s typical operating current is 60microamps/MHz in normal mode but then drops to 500nanoamps in deep shutdown mode. The ReRAM is based on process technology developed in collaboration with TSMC. The ReRAM avoids the time-consuming ‘erase-before-write’ process of flash memory.

M2L31 series supports a range of I/O and peripherals, including UART, I2C, SPI/I2S, and multiple USB options, along with support for up to 16 channels of capacitive touch.

Nuvoton Technology is committed to supporting developers with a robust ecosystem, including the M2L31 NuMaker evaluation board and Nu-Link debugger. The M2L31 series is compatible with various IDEs, including Keil MDK, IAR EWARM, and NuEclipse IDE with the GNU GCC compiler. It also supports program update methods such as ISP and IAP.
