Artificial intelligence speeds analog/mixed-signal design
The company was founded in 2018 by a group of experienced design engineers and semiconductor executives with time served at such companies as: Analog Devices, Fairchild, Maxim, National Semiconductor and Skyworks.
The company announced it had raised $3 million of seed investment in September 2019 to help it bring a “fully-automated” analog and mixed-signal IC development platform to market. This platform will allow non-semiconductor experts to define and produce their own analog and mixed-signal ICs, the company claimed.
Celera did not reveal who the individuals or venture capital companies were that had invested in the company.
The company has some similarities to a couple of other that appeared at about the same time, Agile Analog Ltd. (Cambridge, England) and JITX Inc. (Berkeley, Calif.) although interestingly the three companies have different business models.
Celera is looking to supply tools to its customers as an EDA company would. Agile Analog, will supply analog and mixed-signal IC cores as intellectual property in the manner of ARM and JITX is using AI to automate the design of circuit boards as a service.
Abid Hussain, co-founder and CEO of Celera, said in a statement: “Celera has applied patented groundbreaking AI-based software and over two-hundred combined years of hands-on chip design experience to deliver the ‘impossible:’ Fully automated custom analog/mixed-signal IC design,”
Celera can supply a platform demonstration and is working with early customers on delivering production IC designs.
