ASIC prevents electric shocks in accidents with electric cars
Bosch’s ASIC CG912 is a central component in pyrotechnic battery separation systems (“Pyrofuse”). Triggered by the vehicle’s airbag control unit, these systems use small propellants to blow out parts of the connecting cable to the high-voltage battery in the event of an accident, so that the circuit is quickly and effectively interrupted. For this purpose, the pyrotechnic charges mechanically drive a wedge through the high-voltage line between the battery and the power electronics, thus separating the electrical connection. This disconnects the vehicle from the power supply and eliminates the risk of an electric fire or electric shock. The CG912 is an old friend: The ASIC was originally developed for airbag control units.
