ASIL-B compliant PMIC is customized for automotive camera applications
The RAA271082 is a versatile ISO 26262-compliant multi-rail power IC from Renesas. It features a primary high-voltage synchronous buck regulator, two secondary low-voltage synchronous buck regulators and a low-voltage LDO regulator. In addition, the RAA271082 has four over-voltage and under-voltage (OV/UV) protection functions, I2C communication, a configurable general-purpose I/O pin and a dedicated reset output for fault indication. To meet ASIL-B metrics, the RAA271082 has a second independent reference for OV/UV monitoring, an integrated power-up self-test, independent OV/UV monitoring and continuous CRC error checking of internal registers and I2C communications.
The highly integrated RAA271082 provides a universal power solution for automotive cameras and is an ideal complement to Renesas’ Automotive High-Definition Link (AHL) technology, according to the manufacturer. This enables automotive manufacturers to transmit high-definition video signals via low-cost cables and connectors. The new PMIC simplifies power supply design for automotive camera modules that must meet functional safety requirements. These include cameras for surround view, rear view, driver monitor and e-mirror applications. The RAA271082 supports the power requirements of virtually any combination of image sensor, image signal processor (ISP) and encoder technology. At the same time, the chip can be connected directly to the battery or supplied with power via coaxial cable.
In addition to its use in imaging systems, the RAA271082’s high level of integration and comprehensive safety functions make it a good solution in a wide range of applications for 16- and 32-bit automotive MCUs.
“Cameras are an essential feature for all new vehicles today,” said Niall Lyne, vice president of the Automotive Analog Power & Video Business Division at Renesas. “Our new PMIC offers all the features and functions our customers need. Its compact form factor makes it suitable for almost all automotive camera modules. It is an excellent complement to our AHL solution, which was recently recognised as one of the most innovative applications of computer vision technology.”
Renesas is providing one of its “Winning Combinations” to help customers develop automotive camera systems that use both the RAA271082 and AHL: the Full Digital Cluster with AHL. Renesas’ Winning Combinations are proven system architectures that work seamlessly together to enable optimised, low-risk design for faster time-to-market.
The RAA271082 is available now along with the RTKA271082DE0000BU evaluation board.
