Audi details plans for e-car production
In 2015, Audi introduced the e-tron Quattro concept car to the public. The still unnamed series car will look rather similar to the 2015 prototype, the carmaker announced. Customers can expect a sporty SUV that will be positioned somewhere between the existing models Q5 and Q7 in Audi’s product portfolio. Equipped with a long-range battery and three electric motors, the e-tron series version will be able to bridge a distance of 500 km (310 miles) before it will need to recharge its battery. The charging stop might not take very long time, since the e-SUV will have fast-charging capability.
The Brussels factory has been chosen because it enables Volkswagen to bundle critical key competencies and to unleash manufacturing synergies, said Audi CEO Rupert Stadler. In exchange to the e-tron production, Audi will move the production of its A1 compact car to its production line in Martorell, Spain. The Q3, hitherto manufactured in Martorell, will roll off the manufacturing lines in Györ, Hungary. In Györ, Audi already produces the sedan and cabriolet versions of its A3 as well as the Audi TT sports roadster and coupé.
