Automotive-grade Qi wireless charging solution features NFC communication

By eeNews Europe

The solution is compliant to WPC’s Qi standard supporting EPP (Extend Power Profile), meaning that the charger can supply up to 15W of power. The multi-coil design also ensures a wide charging area with a 2.7x greater charging range over single coil configurations.

Qi is currently the most popular wireless charging standard, and been adopted by the European Automotive Standards Group (CE4A) as the charging standard in vehicles.

The NFC communication is intended to provide the user authentication that will allow Bluetooth/WiFi communication with infotainment system, lock/unlock the doors, and allow engine start. NFC also enables vehicle setting customization for multiple drivers.
