The hybrid and electric vehicles market is creating a strong demand for isolation components for high voltage systems within the car and the high voltage charging circuitry that is required for plug-in cars.

Car manufacturers are looking at wider creepage and clearance isolators with higher voltage ratings to standardize components across various application modules within the car.
The ACPL-K4xT, Avago’s latest addition to its Automotive R²Coupler family in an SSO-8 package, provides 5 kVRMS rating, with 8 kVPEAK transient rating and up to 1140 V working voltage in a small surface mount package meeting 8 mm creepage and clearance requirements. The onboard charger of plug-in electric vehicles is connected to a high voltage, high current supply for quick charging.

The need for high voltage insulation capability and good protection against transients are extremely critical here.

The device is now available from distributor EBV Elektronik. For more information visit www.ebv.vom
