ABLIC has launched the S-191L/N series of high-voltage battery monitoring ICs with industry-unique functions for automotive functional safety. One IC efficiently integrates three monitoring functions for overvoltage, undervoltage and analogue monitoring in a space-saving manner. Due to its high dielectric strength, this series enables direct monitoring of the battery voltage. At the same time, the S-191L/N series offers the industry’s first signal output via which the high input voltage can be output as a small analogue output signal for direct feeding into an A/D converter by means of an integrated voltage divider. If required, this function can be deactivated via an external signal in order to reduce the standby current and, at the same time, the error rate as well as to improve functional safety. Furthermore, the S-191L/N series monitors the input voltage range and signals both too low and too high voltage. This significantly improves functional safety in automotive applications, as undervoltage is often the cause of faulty ECU behaviour and overvoltage can damage the ECU.

The connection (sense) used for voltage monitoring allows an exceptionally wide input voltage range of -30 V to 45 V, making the S-191N/L series robust against voltage spikes. In addition, the series complies with the PPAP standard and is qualified according to the AEC-Q100 quality standard.
