The device can be installed by consumers on existing mechanical and electronic power or gas meters. It transfers the collected meter consumption to the NorthQ Portal – www.homemanager.tv – every 15 minutes. Home and apartment owners can track their consumption, view their estimated annual bill and take advantage of all the services it can provide. The forecast and alarm functions analyse historical consumption and estimates expected annual or monthly electricity/gas expenses and alerts consumers before they exceed their allocated power budget.

This retrofit solution is compatible with about 98 percent of electricity meters and around 86 percent of gas meters on the market. Depending on the version, the device measures the amount of rotations per kWh (mechanical meters), the amount of pulses per kWh (electronic meters), or the magnetic input field on gas meters. The measurement accuracy is on average 97 percent for Ferraris type meters, 99.8 percent for electronic meters and 99.5 percent for gas meters.

The Wi-Fi Power Reader from NorthQ is based on Broadcom’s Wireless Internet Connectivity for Embedded Devices (WICED) Development Platform.
