Berner & Mattner establishes competence center for Functional Safety
By pooling safety experts and system engineers with different technical focus, the competence center covers all development areas for electronic systems which are subject to the new ISO 26262 standard for functional safety, the company said.
The safety and systems engineers of Berner & Mattner´s competence center have gained long-standing experience in methods and domains. A crucial factor for the efficient implementation of safety-critical product developments is the know-how gathered in the field of safety analysis, the preparation of technical safety concepts, the modeling of safety measures and the verification and validation of safety-critical systems. The team of experts in the fields of systems engineering and functional safety also helps to avoid misinterpretations. This includes coordinating the disciplines of hardware and software, OEM and supplier, product developers and safety analysts. The safety & systems team is nationwide networked and has already successfully completed several series projects for major automotive manufacturers and suppliers.
"Functional safety is often seen as a collection of additional process activities," says Dr.-Ing. Bernhard Kaiser, head of the competence center. "In my opinion, however, this approach is too short-sighted. Due to the complexity of today´s systems, such as in the area of driver assistance systems or e-mobility, feasible and economical solutions to meet the safety requirements can only be achieved in a joined effort of skilled engineers. These engineers need to understand both the functioning of the system and have a cross-sectional view of the interaction of all components. Functional safety is an engineering discipline."
