Blaupunkt takes over embedded systems expert company Kwest
Startup company Kwest’s expertise centers around what the company calls "technology platforms" – hardware and software modules that can be reused in different applications and products. Focused on automotive applications including audio, video and power management, the company can help customers to investigate problems, create new product concepts, speed up time to market, and reduce development costs, the partners explained. Among Kwest’s customers have been carmaker Audi, TV set manufacturer Loewe AG and telecommunications provider O2. In the future, Kwest will act at the markets under the name "Blaupunkt embedded systems."
With the takeover, Blaupunkt intends to strengthen its R&D capacities and strengthen its activities "in the automotive as well as in the non-automotive sector", as the company explained. Kwest will have access to Blaupunkt’s manufacturing capacity, which is much larger than the companies own capacity. Kwest founder Sebastian Wendt will continue to act as general manager of the unit; the entire staff will be taken over.
Blaupunkt has been a division of automotive supplier Bosch for many years. After a restructuring carried out over the past years, the company is now owned by capital investor Aurelius.
