The Blickfeld sensor collects detailed 3D ranging data an integrated computing chipset now performs motion detection.

Blickfeld is developing an algorithm library optimized for the chipset that includes a variety of pre-processing features. The first algorithm presented enables dynamic motion detection.

This algorithm recognizes the static background within the point cloud and then removes it to reveal dynamic objects, such as people and vehicles, which can be highlighted along with their vector of travel.

This feature is now included in the firmware on Blickfeld’s Cube 1 series lidar. The acquired data is made available at the open software interface.

Additional pre-processing algorithms will be released to further capture and interpret the environment.

“Smart LiDARs represent the next generation of lidar sensor technology, and we are excited to lead this evolution in the industry,” said Florian Petit, founder of Blickfeld, in a statement.

Blickfeld is backed by Continental, Bayern Kapital, Fluxunit (the corporate venture arm of lighting company Osram), TEV (Tengelmann Ventures), High-Tech Gründerfonds, and Unternehmertum Venture Capital Partners.
