Blu Wireless and Cadence co-operate on IP for WiGig and 4G backhaul
802.11ad Wi-Fi (also called WiGig), which uses the 60GHz band, is now hitting the market and is capable of delivering more than 20 times the speed of existing Wi-Fi. 4G basestation companies are using the same 60 GHz band for high-speed unlicensed wireless links between small cells that can be mounted on street furniture such as signs, benches and streetlamps. Both Blu Wireless and Cadence intend to collaborate on developing advanced IP for these markets. Cadence will contribute its analogue/mixed-signal IP expertise. Blu Wireless will contribute its expertise in 60 GHz band design.

Our library of analogue IP will enable us to provide essential links to the outside world.”
The HYDRA gigabit PHY and MAC baseband provides a cost-effective, flexible baseband IP solution for applications such as WiGig, IEEE 802.11ad and gigabit millimetre wave backhaul and fronthaul. The modular parallel architecture of the HYDRA can be scaled to support custom implementations ranging from its current specification of 2 to 7Gbps, to 20Gbps and beyond. A hardware evaluation platform will be available in Q2 2014.
