Bluetooth 5 SoC offers ultra-low-power wireless IoT connectivity

Target applications for this device include wearables such as fitness trackers and smart watches, smart locks, and electronics like lighting or appliances. ON’s claims for the device include, “some of the best numbers in the industry for peak Rx in Receive Mode and Deep Sleep Modes. It is suited for for applications using 1.2 and 1.5 V batteries, and provides a voltage supply range between 1.1 and 3.6 V without an external DC/DC converter.

The integrated dual-core architecture is built around an ARM Cortex-M3 processor running at up to 48 MHz with the flexibility to support 2.4 GHz proprietary protocol stacks. Also featured is an ultra-low-power 32-bit Dual-Harvard DSP system, which enables signal processing for intensive applications such as wireless audio codecs.

ON Semiconductor is providing a complete development platform, including hardware board, software tools, full documentation set and a large range of Bluetooth protocols and firmware profile libraries. The RSL10 SoC is sampling in a 5.50 mm² 51-pin WLCSP package. Samples of a 6 x 6 mm 48-pin QFN are planned to be available at the end of April 2017.
