BMW establishes R&D center for autonomous driving
The new R&D center will bundle the company’s activities in the areas of autonomous driving, digitization, vehicle connectivity and innovative propulsion technologies. It is planned that the new campus – most likely in the east of Munich – will create some 2000 additional jobs. Besides labs and workshops covering some 60.000 square meters (roughly 650.000 square feet), the campus will include test tracks.
The company did not disclose when the new campus will open its doors, but the project seems to be urgent: By 2021, the Bavarians plan to bring a self-driving vehicle ready into series production.
